The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal for construction of new domestic terminal building and related infrastructure at Patna Airport. The new domestic terminal building and related infrastructure will be constructed there at an estimated cost of Rs 1,216.90 crore under the proposal approved in the Cabinet Economic Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The new terminal building will be of 65,155 square meters, with a surface area of ​​18,650 square meters. This will enable the smooth movement of 4.5 million passengers annually from Patna Airport. The facility at present at the airport can handle the systematic movement of 7 lakh passengers every year. According to the official release, this building will be equipped with world class travel facilities. The construction of new terminal building will increase economic activities in Patna region, which will create additional employment. With this project the aspirations of the people of Bihar have been fulfilled. This project is part of the package announced by the Prime Minister for Bihar.

Patna Airport of Bihar is one of the major airports in the eastern region. The current terminal building of the airport is an old two-storey structure and is being used four times over capacity. The government received several requests from the Government of Bihar and the people of Bihar to renovate and expand the existing airport. It was necessary to build a new terminal building at Patna Airport and to build the associated structure, as the number of passengers has increased considerably in the last few years.
