Approval for construction of a new 4 lane bridge parallel to the bridge

New Delhi / Patna: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the construction of a new 5.634 km long 4-lane bridge parallel to the Gandhi Setu on the Ganges river in Bihar capital Patna. In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the construction of a four-lane bridge parallel to the Mahatma Gandhi Setu on the Ganges River in Patna.

It will cost Rs 2,926.42 crore and it will be ready in three and a half years. It is expected to be ready in January 2023. This new bridge will be constructed in EPC mode 38 meters west upstream of the present Mahatma Gandhi Setu. This information was given by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad after the meeting of the Economic Committee of the Union Cabinet. This mega project connecting North and South Bihar will be 14 and a half kilometers long. The bridge will pass through Patna, Saran and Vaishali districts. In its construction, four underpasses, one ROB, a 1580 meter long byduct, 110 meter flyover, four small bridges, five bus shelters and 13 road junctions will be built. After the construction of the new bridge, there will be two eight-lane bridge in Patna on the Ganges river. In this, people will get relief due to the arrangement of going from one side and coming from the other side. People will not have to deal with the problem of traffic jam. With the construction of the new bridge, it will be convenient for North Bihar, Nepal, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, North Bengal. Also, social and economic benefits will also be available. During the construction of the new bridge, about 20.94 lakh days of direct employment will be created.

This will be the 30th bridge over the Ganges River. It is noteworthy that before May 2014, there were only 13 bridges on the Ganges river from Allahabad to Farakka. After this, an additional 20 bridges are planned in these parts. They are either built or under construction. In this way the number of bridges has increased to 33. In this, five bridges have already been opened for traffic and construction work on seven bridges. The remaining eight bridge projects are planned for construction. This bridge will be the 30th bridge. At the same time, Nand Kishore Yadav, Minister of Road Construction in the Bihar government said that the gift of another big bridge to Bihar by the Central Government said, this bridge is part of the Prime Minister’s Package. With the construction of this bridge, there will be a strong link to connect North and South Bihar. This will facilitate people.
