On 17 July 2000, Patna saw the horrific scene of a plane crash. An Alliance Air aircraft (number 7412) belonging to Indian Airlines flying to Delhi from Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport had hit the ground in Patna’s Girdnibagh. In the accident, five people, including 55 passengers and six crew members of the government house in Gurdnibagh were killed.
The plane of Alliance Air was on a flight from Kolkata to Delhi. He was scheduled to land at Patna’s Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport at 9.20 am. The aircraft pilot lost control of the aircraft as soon as he approached the airport. After this, the airplane plunged into the residential area of Girdnibagh where the state government employees have government accommodation.
Five members of the family, including an assistant to the home department, were killed on the spot in the government quarter at which the plane fell. Only three passengers aboard the aircraft could survive. They are also in a scorched condition. In order to investigate this incident, Patna Airport was then included in the list of the most dangerous airports in the country.
